Month at a Glance - RamadhanClick here for the Ramadhan Home Page, that includes the latest namaz timings and events calendar. Brief Overview of the Month of Ramadhan: By Dr. Raza Dungersi Ramadhan is the ninth month in the Muslim lunar calendar. The Arabic word “Ramada” means severe heat. The month of Ramadhan was named thus meaning the month of severe heat. Fasting causes, among other things, thirst and fatigue: the products of heat. Hence this month of fasting is called “Ramadhan”. By some accounts, the word “Ramadhan” is one of the divine names; Masoomeen have therefore advised us, out of respect, to address this month as “Shahr Ramadhan”, or the month of Ramadhan and not simply Ramadhan. |
‘A fasting person’s sleep is worship, his silence is glorification of Allah, his good deeds are accepted, and his supplication is answered.’[al-Faqih, v. 2, p. 76, no. 1783] - Imam Jafar as-Sadiq (AS)
