Du'a for Repentance
Whenever a person commits any sin, he/she should immediately offer repentance to Allah, saying the following dua.

اللّهُمَّ إِنِّي أتُوْبُ إِلَيْكَ مِنْهَا لاَ أَرْجِعُ إِلَيْهَا أَبَداً

O Allah, I repent before You for all my sins and I promise never to return to the same (again).

Kerbala is a microcosm. In the events of 10 days, in that one spot on earth, all the great lessons of the Qur'an were brought to life in front of the witness of history - and all those who were (or are today) in doubt that the highest ideals of the Qur'an could be lived up to - all those who felt that the highest Qur'anic ideals were beyond the reach of humans - were in that place on Earth, that Kerbala, proved wrong. Doubts were shattered, and the jewels of Qur'anic truth were brought out and displayed in the desert of Kerbala, shining with such a light that even today, so many centuries later, our vision is dazzled by those human gems.

The beginning of the Muslim New Year in the year 61 AH, the greatest act of renewal was begun. The events of the first 10 days of Muharram marked the point of a new beginning for Islam - when what was deviated was set right - when what was wrong was exposed in such a way that the shame of the wrongdoers has been manifested to every succeeding generation - and a weakened Islam was revived, restored, and reconnected with its spiritual and intellectual roots. (Excerpt from "New Year's Day - Mourning the Imam (Leader)")

Alhamdulillah, this year we were blessed to have as our guest speaker Syed Rizwan Rizvi, below is a breif biography about Moulana Rizvi.

maulanaRizwanMoulana Rizvi was born in a family of ulema in Hyderabad, Pakistan. His father, Moulana Syed Tilmiz H. Rizvi, migrated from India with his grandfather, Hujjatul Islam Moulana Syed Izhar ul Hasnain Rizvi. In the early 1990s his family migrated to United States. His basic schooling was done in New Jersey, and he graduated from high school in 1998. Since early childhood he had the inclination and desire to attend Hawzah Ilmiyah for extensive Islamic education. He started his religious studies in Chicago, Illinois under the tutelage of H.I. Moulana Amir Mukhtar Faezi at Imam Ali Seminary where he studied for one year. Thereafter he attended the Islamic Seminary of Qum in 2000 and studied under some of the best and renowned theologians of the Hawzah. After completing general coursework in Arabic literature, Jurisprudence, Quranic Exegesis, Principles of Usul, Kalam and Mantiq, Moulana Rizvi focused his attention towards Islamic philosophy and during the latter part of his studies on Irfan-e-Islami. Throughout his six years of studies at the Hawzah, Moulana obtained 204 credits and received Bachelors in Theology and Philosophy - "Karshanasi-e-Arshad" from Jamiatul Mustafa al-Alamiyyah. Following his studies in Qum he felt the need to improve his fluency in Arabic. In pursuit of this goal, he travelled to Damascus and enrolled in advanced Arabic courses at Damascus University's Arabic Language Institute and completely immersed himself in an Arabic speaking environment. During his stay in Syria, he also periodically traveled to United States and lectured at various Islamic Centers.
