Brief Overview of the Month of Sha'aban:

Sha'aban is the 8th Islamic (lunar) month. Our Prophet, Hazrat Muhammed (s.a.w.w) considered this month to be his month. It is recorded that whenever the moon of this month was sighted, he would send out a caller in the streets of Madina, to announce this message for him:"The month of Sha'aban, which is my month, is already here. I beseech you to help me in this month by fasting and thus attaining closeness to Allah." According to Imam Zainnul Abeedeen(as), Imam Ali (as) used to fast for the whole month of Shaaban after hearing this message from the Prophet (s.a.w.w.).

There are other traditions from our Imams who recommended us to fast as many days as we can in this month; especially so in the last 3 days of this month. Other acts of worship that are deemed to carry great merits in this month are: to give charity for the sake of Allah and to seek His forgiveness.

Over and above that, the month of Shabaan brings abundant joy to the lovers of Ahlul Bayt who celebrate the birth anniversary of Imam Hussein (a.s.), Imam Ali bin Hussein, Zainul Abeedeen(as) and the Imam of our times, Imam Hujjat Ibnul Hassan (a.s.), may Allah hasten his reappearance.

May Allah accept our good deeds in this sacred month. Ameen.
